Barbara Hampton

Barbara Hampton is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC).  Ms. Hampton has over 30 years of experience in the areas of finance, accounting, auditing, budgeting, strategic planning, procurement, information technology and rate design.  She was the finance lead on Oglethorpe Power Corporation’s (OPC’s) restructuring into three separate entities in the mid-1990s, working through lender approvals, new wholesale power contracts and new rate structures for both OPC and GTC.  Since the mid 1990s, she has primarily served as GTC’s Chief Financial Officer, serving as OPC’s Chief Information Officer from 2003 to 2005.  She earned a BBA in Accounting from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, a master’s degree from the University of Georgia and is a certified public accountant.

 

Ms. Hampton was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal in 2011 to serve a seven-year term as the sixth district representative on the State Board of Education and served as Chair from 2012 to 2014.  She is also a member of the UGA Terry College of Business Emeritus Alumni Board and the Georgia YMCA Board of Patrons.  She is a former chair of Leadership Georgia, a statewide leadership development program, and a former president of the National Generation and Transmission Accounting and Finance Association.  She recently served on the Georgia Education Reform Commission, a task force examining all aspects of education in Georgia, as well as the Governor’s Joint Study Committee on the establishment of a Leadership Academy.
